Situated at 56 Church Street, SMITH studio specialises in new works by a broad range of established and emerging artists and, in keeping with it’s unassuming name, aims to make art ever-more accessible to art lovers and collectors, simultaneously demystifying certain aspects of an often complex art world. The studio will also work closely with art buyers to establish carefully curated private collections that will ultimately yield not only aesthetic benefit but ultimately financial reward too.
Amy Ellenbogen, Curator at SMITH studio, was born in Johannesburg in 1982 and studied Art History at Stellenbosch University. She worked in the creative industries of fashion styling and interiors before setting her heart on curating. Amy looks for authentic artists that resonate with her love for art and art making. She is constantly inspired by what she sees around her. Africa and all her riches are her true inspiration. Amy Lives and works in Cape Town South Africa.
Candace Marshall-Smith was born in Cape Town and after studying at both Stellenbosch and Cape Town University she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Candace worked in the financial services industry for 9 years both abroad and in South Africa before she took up her role as co-founder of SMITH studio. Candace has an innate love for art and specifically collecting art. She is also a part time photographer and is based in Cape Town.
Candace and Amy have combined their unique, individual skill sets and together they have conceptualised and created SMITH studio - a Fine Art Gallery situated at 56 Church Street that identifies with groups of young contemporary South African artists whom it will profile and showcase over a period of time. SMITH studio is passionate about an environment that deepens the relationship between artists and collectors.
